Most first-time founders miss the essence of Ideal Customer Profile (ICP), ending up with a vague brushstroke instead of a precise definition.
I am seeing this over and over again, if its edtech its students in school. Students in school is very broad, break it down to elementary, middle, high, define age group, demographic and income levels.
A detailed and fictional representation of the ideal customer for a business.
It helps businesses tailor their efforts to attract and retain the most valuable customers
Elements of an ICP
Demographic: Age, gender,income, education level.
Firmographic: Company size,industry, location.
Psychographic: Values,interests, lifestyles.
Behavioral: Buying patterns, product usage, brand loyalty.
Example
If a SaaS company specializing in project management software identifies that its ideal customer is a mid-sized tech company (firmographic),with a preference for collaborative and user-friendly tools (psychographic), and aneed for scalable solutions(behavioral), then their ICP would embody these characteristics.
